Why We Sing

Mission & Vision

Mission

Empower. Heal broken souls.

We make music to empower and heal broken souls — turning ancestral memory, jazz phrasing and spoken word into a space where people can put themselves back together, one song at a time.

Every set is built the same way: start with the room, read what it needs, and give it a reason to feel something real before the night is over.

Vision

Voices that outlive us

To carry the sound of Khayelitsha Makhaza beyond its streets, keeping the threads of ancestry alive in every performance, so the next generation inherits songs that still know where they come from.

We want Iziko to become the name people reach for when an event needs more than background music — a wedding, a memorial, a launch, a night that has to be remembered.

The Sound

Where the old and the felt meet

Our sets move between spoken poetry and sung melody, jazz chords under isiXhosa and English lyrics, love songs sitting beside songs for the ancestors.

Nothing is performed for spectacle — it's offered as something to feel, to grieve with, to fall in love to, and to heal to.

Where We're From

Khayelitsha, Makhaza

This is where the songs start — the streets, the church halls, the front rooms of Makhaza. Every performance we give somewhere else still carries that home in it.

Why Book Us

A room that stops talking

It usually starts the same way — a guitar comes out, Saba picks up the mic, and for a second the room isn't sure what it's about to hear. Then the first line lands, and it stops talking.

That's what we're built for: not background noise, but a moment your guests actually remember. A wedding vow that lands differently with the right song under it. A memorial that finally lets people grieve out loud. A corporate launch that people talk about after they've left.

Every event is different, so every set is built for the room it's going into — not pulled off a shelf. That includes corporate functions: we scale the set to the room, the audience and the tone you need.
